Search Engine is by far one of the most demanding distributed computation applications at the largest scale in the world. Search Platform Team’s mission is to provide the most scalable high performance and cost efficient platforms for Bing – the fastest growing search engine today. To deliver the highest quality search results to billions of users, there are many challenges in search platforms from various aspects including understanding the user search queries, search service trend, search algorithms and computer hardware. Working together with top computer scientists and researchers from Microsoft Research Asia and driving our projects together with the platform team in the US, we continue revising the definition of technical limit and engineering excellence.

Roles and Responsibilities:
As a Development Engineer on the STCA Search Platform team you will play a key technical leadership role, working with talented developers, testers and program managers to design, develop, and ship cutting edge search indexing and serving platforms and services to enable highly search quality and cost effective services. You will have the opportunity to lead in the following areas:
1. Understand and articulate the search platform needs and requirements in China and worldwide, and contribute to the product roadmap and strategy for OSD search platform development
2. Drive the engineering rhythm and process of the team from planning, resource allocation, design, coding, deployment, and support of search serving operations
3. Provide architectural and engineering leadership
4. Drive engineering excellence and deliver product with uncompromising quality on schedule
5. Work closely with MSRA research teams to rapidly transfer innovative technology to Bing

Qualifications:
As a Senior Development Engineer on the STCA Search Platform team, you should feel comfortable working in a fast pace environment. You should possess a strong technical background and a good grasp of software engineering principles, exceptional problem solving, design, programming, and testing skills. You should be self-motivated and self-directed and able to collaborate and mentor team members. A demonstrated ability to come up-to-speed quickly on a new technical domain is required. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, written communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment are very important.

Additional qualifications for this position include:
1. 5+ years of relevant system software design, development, and shipping experience.
2. Great design and problem solving skills, with a strong bias for quality and engineering excellence at scale. Our code runs on thousands of machines on multiple continents, so bring your ‘A’ game.
3. Outstanding coding chops in C/C++.
4. Demonstrated experience shipping products on time and with high
5. Experience in OS, distributed systems and multi-threaded programming is strongly preferred
6. Experiences in large scale online services engineering and operation a strong plus
7. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (Masters or PhD preferred).
